This winter, the information theory community lost one of its giants: Ralf Kötter passed away in Munich, Germany, in the early morning hours of February 2, 2009. During the past 15 years, his seminal contributions have transformed our field, and his work will surely remain a source of inspiration for years to come. Those of us who have had the privilege to know Ralf personally will cherish the memory of a towering intellect, with a big heart and a gentle soul.

New blog and book announcemnet on IT in computer vision and pattern recognition

The IT Society has launched a Distinguished Lecturers Program (DLP). Please submit nominations for Distinguished Lecturers to the Membership & Chapters Committee by June 15, 2009.

A tenure-track position with closing date 1 May is available.

The Newsletter and Online teams are working together to combine submission processes where appropriate. New instructions and guidelines for submissions have been posted on the website.

As of March 21, 2009, after only 44 days since launch, the new IT Society website has received 10,028 visits from 118 countries.

The deadline for paper submission to the ÌÇÐÄlogo Information Theory Workshop (ITW'09), Taormina, Sicily, Italy, has been extended to *April 5, 2009, 23:00 CET (17:00 EDT)*.
